FAQ - So, You're a Health Coach?
Often when I tell someone that I'm a health coach, I get reactions that mirror back to me the assumptions people have about what I do. I thought I would cover the most common just to clear the air a bit.
*So, like a personal trainer then? - Nope. I definitely think that exercise is important, one of the best things you can do for yourself, I don't tell people to work out. If my clients are exercising, or have questions about their routines, I definitely give tips, OR point them in the right direction of appropriate resources or local gyms or trainers that might fit their needs.
*You just tell people what to eat right? - Nopity Nope. As a coach I guide someone along their path that feels intuitive to them. If they're just figuring that out, then education is the first step, what's in your food, how certain foods can affect you. I'll never be dogmatic in assigning a meal plan or anything like that.
*Oh, so just like a life coach! - Well....no again. A life coach is great for helping you achieve big personal or career goals, but as a health coach, my biggest concern is...your health. Some of those big goals may overlap, but my advice will always be to not jeopardize your health in order to achieve those. We'll work to build up your health, so that achieving those big life goals is easier.
*Got it, so just helping people with their food and exercise. - Yes. But also, there's more. Eating well and incorporating exercise into your daily routine is key to building a foundation for health, BUT if you are drinking a green smoothie and killing it at boot camp every day while staying at a job you hate and struggling with finances or personal relationships then your health really isn't what it could be. I try to dig deeper to get the whole picture so that we can find together what's impacting your health negatively and work towards solutions to improve those areas!
